Contract signed for new, security-upgraded Slovenian residence permit cards

Minister of the Interior Aleš Hojs and the executive director of the company CETIS, Roman Žnidarič, signed at the company's headquarters today a contract on the design, manufacture, storage, personalisation and supply of new second-generation cards for temporary and permanent residence permits and residence registration certificate for foreigners in the Republic of Slovenia. The new cards will start to be issued at the beginning of 2022 and it is expected that one million cards will be produced in ten years.

While residence permits for third-country nationals are already issued as biometric documents in a uniform format in all EU Member States, the new cards will be upgraded with additional security features designed to prevent counterfeiting.

Cards for citizens of the EU and the Swiss Confederation and for family members of EU citizens, Slovenian citizens and citizens of the Swiss Confederation residing in the Republic of Slovenia will also start to be issued in the new uniform format. However, cards of EU and Swiss Confederation citizens will not feature records of biometric data.

On this occasion, the delegation of the Ministry inspected part of the production of identity cards and passports, and were provided with a presentation of the company, the history of cooperation with the Republic of Slovenia, foreign references and its business operations.
